What does 12 hours really mean?

Our only requirement is that you are up and on your feet for all 12 hours. Not necessarily dancing, but awake and standing! Dance Marathon IS NOT exhausted people draped over each other - it IS music, food, competitions, entertainment, and excitement. So come ready for fun, leave your inhibitions at the door, and let the music work its magic on you!

Do I have to be a good dancer?

While we look forward to checking out your suave moves, none are required whatsoever! As long as you have a good time while contributing to a great cause, you are the best dancer we've got! Plus there will be plenty of dance lessons and demonstrations, lead by various RSOs, during DM.

Do I need a partner?

Nope, come solo! Dance Marathon is not a couples' dance. However, we strongly encourage you to sign up with a buddy or two - your special someone or your best friends - as DM dancers together! It makes fundraising a million times easier and more enjoyable, and there's nothing like having a whole bunch of your closest friends dancing with you for a great cause.

Do I need previous experience?

Again, Nope! Not at all! We look forward to meeting you and having you become a part of DM 2009! We will stay in touch with you throughout the year leading up to DM. Feel free to contact us at any time with questions or concerns. We are here to help!

How much is this going to cost me?

In theory, NOTHING! Dancers raise $120 dollars each through securing donations and pledges in advance. Your $15 dollar registration fee counts toward this amount, so you can fundraise that $15 dollars right back to yourself if you don't want it to be your contribution. We know it sounds like a lot of money, BUT with a little hard work and creativity, you can raise it in no time. Ask friends, families, and RSOs. And don't forget, the DM committee will be here to help you every step of the way.

Can I bring someone to support me?

Each dancer will have moralers to cheer him or her on throughout the night! Imagine - personal cheerleaders of your own choice! They give massages, they grab you food, and they support you in every step of the night.

What should I wear?

Don't worry about dressing up or down - each dancer gets a Dance Marathon t-shirt. You must provide your own pants though...

Will I be able to use the restroom?

Yes, you can use the restroom. Plus, there are designated break times for refreshing yourself and all of that, as well as medical staff to make sure everything is safe and healthy.

Will I be kicked out if I sit down?

No, of course not. This is not a competition, it's solely an opportunity to help out and have fun! With all of the preparation and moralers, plus all of the fun we are going to have, you shouldn't even NEED to sit down! However, if medical reasons insist that you do (e.g. a twisted ankle, etc.) remember that your health and safety are our highest concerns.

What if I have medical issues/problems?

ALL MEDICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO MEDICAL STAFF AT CHECK-IN! Prescription and non-prescription (Tylenol, birth control, etc.) Medical staff will be on site to administer it. If at any time you feel ill - GO TO THE MEDICAL STAFF! It is important that you stay healthy throughout DM!
